The police's National Security Department arrested at least two men and three women after raiding two bookstores in Mong Kok this afternoon.
Independent bookstore "Have a Nice Stay" also known as "Lau Ha" was raided at around 2 p.m.
Over four hours, police seized multiple boxes of evidence with a woman being taken away.
Sources say customs earlier seized a batch of books published with seditious intent being delivered from overseas to Hong Kong.
Customs and police later launched the joint operations to raid "Have a Nice Stay" and "Greenfield Book Stores" in Mong Kok.
"Have a Nice Stay" bookstore was founded by multiple former journalists in 2022.
It announced on its social media page that it will shutter on August 30th citing operational difficulties and considerations over ambiguity in authorities' enforcement of seditious publications.
