A former prosecutor in the Department of Justice was dismissed for using an official email to accuse the police of lying, and his judicial review application is rejected.
Wong Wa Fun, a former Senior Court Prosecutor, was found to have used his official email in 2019 to send messages to colleagues accusing the police of "blatantly lying". In June 2020, he sent emails inviting colleagues
to attend a rally.
Following a disciplinary inquiry, Wong was found to have engaged in two counts of misconduct. He was dismissed by the Civil Service Bureau, and it deprived him of his pension accumulated for about 30 years.
Wong applied for judicial review. The High Court issued judgement on Tuesday that the civil service has established standards of integrity and neutrality. The decision to dismiss the applicant was not unduly harsh, and did not involve any legal errors. The judicial review is thus ruled unsuccessful.
