HK's largest domestic data centre set to be completed in 2030

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and AI company SenseTime sign a memorandum of understanding, on establishing the city's largest domestic data centre.

The signing ceremony took place in the Data Technology Hub in Tseung Kwan O, and was attended by Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Lillian Cheong and HKSTP Chairman Sunny Chai.

The data centre is set to be completed in 2030.

Equipped with graphics processing units from a variety of countries, the facility will be involved in AI model training, but its location has yet to be decided.

SenseTime CEO Xu Li says he hopes the data centre can showcase the advantages of the mainland and Hong Kong, with the former focusing on training AI models while the latter will offer overseas services.
