The agreement between Iran and the US "had not yet been finalised", according to Tehran's foreign ministry.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Friday that his country's officials are focused on ending the war with the US, and are not yet discussing details of the nuclear plan at this point.

This somewhat contradicted US President Donald Trump, who said he looked to make a "final determination" on moving forward with a deal to extend the present ceasefire between the two countries.

It was expected that the deal would extend the fragile halt by 60 days, as new talks are held on Iran's nuclear programme.

Trump said on his social media that "Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb," and that "the Strait (of Hormuz) must be reopened for international navigation and all sea mines destroyed."

Iran is pushing for a deal that includes a truce between Israel and the Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, where fighting has intensified despite a nominal ceasefire.

Meanwhile US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Washington. But neither spoke to the press after the meeting.

Pakistan continues to play a major part in the peace discussions, and Dar has been in the US since earlier this week to attend meetings in the United Nations in New York.
