Mainland border authorities expect 2.05mn daily cross-border trips during LNY

The mainland is expecting average daily passenger traffic at border checkpoints nationwide to top 2.05 million trips during the upcoming Lunar New Year. That marks an increase of 14 percent.

The outbound travel peak will likely fall on February 15th, the Lunar New Year's Eve.

The inbond flows are expected to peak between February 22nd and 23rd.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is projected to expect over 100,000 arrivals.

For land boundary crossings, the second and third days of the Lunar New Year will likely see the heaviest traffic, with Lo Wu expected to be the busiest control point, handling around 209,000 passengers a day.

The West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Station is expected to record 112,000 daily cross-boundary trips. The National Immigration Administration has instructed broder inspection authorities to step up monitoring of passenger flows and port operations, ensuring that waiting times for Chinese citizens clearing immigration do not exceed 30 minutes.
