The father of fugitive Anna Kwok has been found guilty of handling funds linked to an absconder, becoming the first family member of a wanted activist to be convicted of a national security offence.

The 68-year-old Kwok Yin-sang was accused of attempting to access funds from a savings insurance policy issued by AIA.

The insurance policy was bought when Anna Kwok was 1 year old and had been funded by the father -- the defendant Kwok Yin-sang.

Early last year, he said his daughter was no longer in Hong Kong and applied to cancel the policy to withdraw the remaining balance.

The judge says the savings policy belonged to Kwok's daughter after she turned 18.

And as Kwok knew his daughter is a designated fugitive, the move amounts to handling funds linked to an absconder.
