A retired man was sentenced to one year of probation for pouring urine into soft drinks in several supermarkets.

The 63-year-old defendent, who remained in custody since last August, was sent to the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts.

He earlier admitted to spiking bottled soft drink with urine in supermarkets in different areas, such as Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok and Wan Chai.

The case came to light after a boy felt ill after drinking a bottle of Coca-Cola from a supermarket in Mong Kok.

Psychiatric and psychological reports suggested that the defendent stuggled to control his emotions and requires long-term out-patient treatment.

The judge slammed the defendent for his childish behavior and sentenced him to 12-months probation, taking into account his guilty plea and previous clear record.
