1.43 mil. mainland tourists expected to visit HK in Chinese New Year

The Immigration Department expects 1.43 million mainland tourists will visit Hong Kong during the Lunar New Year period.

Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law expressed optimism about the market during the Lunar New Year, noting that hotel bookings are nearly full.

With only ten days until the Lunar New Year, a series of events have been planned in Hong Kong for the holidays.

The mainland Lunar New Year holiday is nine days long, and the Immigration Department expects 1.43 million mainland tourists to visit Hong Kong during this period.

Law said hotel bookings were already good before the Lunar New Year fireworks were announced, with 70-80% of rooms booked. After the fireworks were announced, and the Jockey Club announced extra activities, hotel bookings and prices rose again.

She said many tourists love to visit Hong Kong for outings, adding special measures are in place at several "hot spots" during the Lunar New Year.
