HK expects 1.43mn mainland visitors during the 9-day Golden Week holidays

The Immigration Department expects that about 1.43 million mainland visitors will travel to Hong Kong during the nine-day Spring Festival Golden Week.

The Immigration Department estimates that during the Mainland Spring Festival Golden Week from 15 to 23 February, about 1.43 million mainland visitors will enter Hong Kong through various control points, with an average daily increase of about 6 percent compared with last year.

The travel sectors expect 2,200 inbound tour groups will travel to Hong Kong during the period. The government has decided on the Lunar New Year holiday to maintain the current customs clearance time after discussions with relevant mainland authorities. Most of the MTR's local railway lines provide overnight services on the Lunar New Year Eve, and the service will be enhanced on the first and second days of the Lunar New Year.
