Thai police arrested a Hong Kong man on Monday.

It is understood that the man is suspected of having fled Hong Kong and has been on the run for 37 years, after allegedly committing a murder in Lung Ha Wan on the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in 1989.

Thai media reported that Bangkok police -- acted on a request of the Hong Kong government -- arrested a 62-year-old Hong Kong man surnamed Mui in Bangkok's Nong Chok district on Monday.

He is believed to be the mastermind behind the Lung Ha Wan murder case on August 31, 1989.

The victim, a 26-year-old restaurant waiter, was allegedly lured to the area by four men.

He was then beaten and buried with a plastic bag, causing him to suffocate to death. The police arrested two people after the incident.

One of the suspects absconded to the mainland in 2000 before being arrested.
