The city has just played host to one of the most prestigious equestrian events on the world circuit over the weekend -- the Hong Kong International Horse Show.

Though it is only in its second edition, the competition is proving popular among fans who have travelled to Hong Kong to watch world-class riders and their horses turn on the style.

Speaking on TVB's Straight Talk programme, Amanda Bond, Head of Equestrian Affairs at the Hong Kong Jockey Club, says the tournament has the potential to turn the city into a regional centre for equestrian sports.

AMANDA BOND, Head of Equestrian Affairs, HKJC: "Obviously, this show is in its second edition. We're looking to attract more interest, but we're seeing, even in the second year, a lot more tourists coming in, and the fans coming in, particularly from the mainland, but also from around Asia. One of the new things we've added to this show this year is an Asian Youth Challenge."

She said for the new event, there were participants from nations and regions such as Thailand, Cambodia and Chinese Taipei, while fans from those places also came to the show.

Bond adds that hosting the show at AsiaWorld-Expo, which is close to the airport, facilitates international visitors to drop by the show.
