A robbery involving 58 million yen occurred in Sheung Wan yesterday.

Police has arrested six people, including three Japanese nationals, one of whom was the “victim” who reported the robbery and is suspected of being an accomplice.

A robbery occurred on Des Voeux Road Central in Sheung Wan yesterday.

Police received a report from a money exchange company employee who saw two men being robbed of 58 million yen in cash, equivalent to nearly 3 million Hong Kong dollars.

The robbers fled in a private car after the robbery.

Sources indicate that after investigation, police arrested several suspects at the airport in the afternoon.

Commissioner of Police Joe Chow said the police has arrested 5 men and 1 woman so far, including 3 Japanese nationals and 2 mainland Chinese nationals, one of whom was the “victim” who reported being robbed.

Chow said: “Originally, two Japanese men reported being robbed. After investigation, it was discovered that one of them was an accomplice who provided information to the other two Japanese men to carry out the robbery.

During the investigation, some of the missing cash (Japanese yen) was recovered, and some that had been converted into other currencies was also recovered.

Yesterday, with the use of CCTV cameras, we were able to arrest the relevant individuals quickly."
