Canada's federal court has overturned a government order to shut down operations of short video platform TikTok in the country and allowed the app to keep running for now.
In November 2024, the Canadian industry ministry ordered the dissolution of TikTok's business over national security risks and possible collection of user data, adding the government was not blocking access or users' ability to create content.
The company later appealed to the court.
A federal court judge on Wednesday issued a short judgement to set aside the order and sent the matter back to Industry Minister Melanie Joly for review.
TikTok said it looked forward to working with Joly to find a solution that's in the best interests of over 14 million users in Canada.
Beijing has repeatedly urged Ottawa to cease politicising economic issues and oppressing Chinese businesses in an unreasonable manner.
