Like many mainland Chinese cities, Xian has been hit by the latest heat wave.

In this western Chinese city, temperatures jumped to 43 degrees Celsius, breaking its July record.

Despite the scorching heat, crowds packed into the Emperor Qinshiuang's Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi'an.

Umbrellas, hats, and portable fans became essential outdoor items.

Some tourists ate ice-cream as a way to cool down.

Tuesday was Xian's third consecutive day with its heat alert at the highest red level.
The maximum temperature reached 43 degrees Celsius.
