FS Paul Chan pushes for more mega events to boost local development

Financial Secretary Paul Chan says the administration will continue to push for more mega events to be hosted in the city in a bid to further boost the city's tourism and exhibition industries.

We are expanding exhibition facilities to connect people, attract business and create　opportunities for our people.

Chan noted on his blog that years of effort have resulted in an exponential increase of exhibitions being hosted in the city.　He stressed more than 360 events were held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre and AsiaWorld-Expo last year, attracting some 7.7 million visitors.

This as tourists visiting such venues during that period reached 2.5 million, which saw a year-on-year increase of 7%.

The FS emphasised the exhibition industry contributed more than 50 billion dollars to the economy two years ago, adding more facilities will open in the future to support the sector.
