Addressing scepticism from certain Western governments towards the 10-year sentence of former Demosisto Secretary-General Joshua Wong for collusion with foreign forces, Secretary for Justice Paul Lam said the administration stands firm on its position.

This as Lam stressed criticisms directed at the city are unavoidable owing to Hong Kong's status as a global city, adding that some Western governments cannot accept the idea of China's rapid development. He said the city's unique status on the international stage means it must take on such challenges head-on.

The secretary for justice also noted the decisions by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law and the Hague Conference on Private International Law to set up offices in the city reflects Hong Kong's reputation in the legal sector.
