UN verify nearly 2,000 attacks on education facilities across Ukraine

The United Nations has verified nearly 2,000 attacks on education facilities across Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion, including around 270 in 2026 alone, UNICEF said Tuesday.

"Air raid alarms have occurred on nearly two-thirds of school days in the period of September and October 2026, compared with around one-third in the equal period of 2025.

The average duration of alarms during school hours has almost doubled from September 2025 to September 2026."

This as one person was injured in an overnight Russian strike on the western Ukrainian city of Rivne, which damaged civilian infrastructure.

In the Black Sea port city of Odesa, a Russian strike sparked a fire at a shopping center.

And overnight attacks on critical infrastructure triggered power and water outages across Kyiv and surrounding regions as rescuers combed

through rubble in southern Ukraine, still searching for survivors three days after one of the deadliest attacks there in nearly five years of war.
