Amid police crackdown on cross-boundary illegally hired cars, a 28-year-old mainland male driver -- a two-way permit holder -- has been arrested. This brings the total number of the arrested involved to 7 within a week.
The private car involved was impounded during the operation for further inspection.
Police earlier discovered some individuals attempted to solicit customers on social media platforms, arranging luxury 7-seaters to travel from Hong Kong to the mainland and Macao. Undercover officers booked a luxury 7-seater vehicle from Tsuen Wan to Macao at a cost of 1,550 yuan.
After boarding the vehicle, police officers arrested the driver on suspicion of using a motor vehicle for illegal rental or carrying passengers for reward, using a vehicle without third-party insurance and other offenses. The case will be heard at the Sha Tin Magistrates' Courts on Thursday.
