Hong Kong recorded more than 600,000 tourists over the course of the Halloween weekend. With the city's hotels set to benefit from upcoming summits and large-scale conferences, some in the tourism sector suggest authorities should promptly expand the Convention and Exhibition Centre and the AsiaWorld-Expo to attract more business travellers.

Hong Kong's inaugural Halloween Month saw more than 600,000 travellers entering the city between last Friday and Sunday, marking an increase of 34% year-on-year.

Mainland tourists alone accounted for 470,000 people, or an increase of about 42% compared with last year.

In hopes of attracting more travellers, some lawmakers proposed the expansion of existing mega venues, as well as the transformation of sites such as Wan Chai's Revenue Tower, the old Immigration Tower and Kong Wan Fire Station into new venues and hotels.
