Melioidosis patient dies 5 days after onset of disease

The city recorded a new cases of melioidosis, with the patient dying five days after the onset of the disease. The Centre for Health Protection are still investigating the cause of death.

The 74-year-old female patient resided in Pak Tin Estate in Shek Kip Mei and suffered from chronic health conditions.

She developed a fever and began coughing on the 4th of this month, before she sought medical help at Caritas Medical Centre three days later after suffering from shortness of breath.

The woman was diagnosed with pneumonia, with hospital personnel noting that she tested positive for melioidosis. She died one day later.

The CHP are still investigating the source of the infection, with preliminary findings indicating that it was a sporadic case.
