Contractor allegedly falsifies safety declarations of 48 lifts

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said a surprise inspection at Tsui Ping North Estate in Kwun Tong, and Pok Hong Estate in Sha Tin unveiled issues.

The department said Taizoom Elevator had failed to install door frame components of fire-resistant doors, of which are required in order to obtain fire-resistance test reports.

The missing components are said to be a serious construction defect, according to officials.

The department goes on to say the work may amount to serious misconduct and has referred the case to police for further investigation.

The department, however, reiterates the affected lifts are safe to use.
