The police's National Security Department has arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of publishing seditious posts on social media while promoting their insurance products.

The pair have been released on bail in the afternoon.

Sources say the arrested 38-year-old man is Wong Ka-ho, a former member of the local group North of the Ring, who is also a licensed insurance broker.

The arrested 38-year-old woman is his friend.

It is understood the duo are suspected of operating insurance-related pages on various social media platforms, and published "soft resistance" posts that allegedly incite hatred against the constitutional order of the SAR.

Wong reportedly profited too by promoting insurance products.

The woman holds no insurance licence and is believed to have helped manage their social media pages.

The National Security Department says the two suspects violated the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance.

Upon first conviction, the sedition offence carries a maximum seven-year prison term.
