New World Development pays 3 billion Hong Kong dollars to hand the 11 SKIES project back to the Airport Authority ahead of schedule.
The authority says the project will be renamed and transformed into a world-class entertainment destination, targeting to open in 2028.
The Airport Authority half of 11 SKIES will be used for entertainment facilities.
This includes a proposed go-kart track and the relocation of an air-freight fresh food market originally set for another part of the Airport City project.
The remaining half will be for dining and retail.
The authority believes the estimated 1 billion dollars in construction costs borne by New World is enough to cover subsequent defect rectifications.
Currently, footbridges already connect 11 SKIES to the airport and AsiaWorld-Expo.
A driverless transport system connecting the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge,
Hong Kong Port and Tung Chung by 2028 will draw more crowds.
