A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southern Peru, with tremors felt in the capital, Lima. Authorities report at least two injuries and damage to several houses and schools.

According to the Geophysical Institute of Peru, the earthquake occurred in the Ayacucho region at 1pm local time on Thursday, at a depth of 108 kilometres. The institute believe it was not a shallow earthquake and is unlikely to cause significant losses. The US Geological Survey, however, recorded a magnitude of 6.7 at the depth of 99 kilometres.
