Truck fire on North Lantau Highway this morning

A truck caught fire on North Lantau Highway in the early hours this morning.

The truck driver fled the scene.

Online footage shows the truck went up in flames with thick plumes of smoke billowing out.

The front of the truck was severely charred.

The blaze occurred at around 3am when the truck carrying electronic devices was driving along the North Lantau Highway toward the airport.

At the Tung Chung East Interchange, it was suspected of losing control and crashing into an iron fence before the vehicle caught fire reportedly with a blast.

Police are currently investigating the driver's whereabouts.

The airport-bound lanes of the highway was temporarily cordoned off before they were fully reopened at around 8am.
