McDonald's HK shelving shrimp burgers to address potential concerns

McDonald's Hong Kong is removing all shrimp burger products from their menu to address potential public concerns.

This comes after the fast food chain in Taiwan suspended the sale of shrimp products.

McDonald's Taiwan rolled out Ebi Burger and Double Ebi Burger on Wednesday.

That same night, an importer notified the fast food chain that testing found the products' shrimp patties contained antibiotics and chemical residues which did not comply with food safety standards and are banned in multiple countries.

The products have been pulled from menu since Thursday.

McDonald's Hong Kong followed suit as a precautionary measure -- even though the shrimp patties used in Hong Kong are different from those supplied to Taiwan in both recipe and production batch.
