Mainland man arrested for attempted murder in Macao after stabbing gf

Macao authorities have charged a 41-year-old mainland Chinese businessman, surnamed Chen, with attempted murder after he allegedly slashed his girlfriend outside a hotel in Taipa on Wednesday night.

Authorities unveiled more details of the assault during a press briefing on Friday.

The suspect allegedly orchestrated the attack, sparked by jealousy and money.

Investigators reported that the suspect and the middle-aged female victim, also from mainland China, met in Macao in May last year and began a romantic relationship two months later.

In July, Chen found the victim began distancing herself from him and found that she was accompanied by other men days before the incident.

Feeling cheated both emotionally and financially noting the substantial amount of money he claimed to have spent on her, Chen traveled to a shop in Taipa to purchase two utility knives and retrieved a metal dining knife and a fork from his hotel room.

The victim was attacked in the evening outside the hotel as the man knived her while aiming at her vital organs. She later fell unconscious.
