Vietnamese police detains the captain of a speedboat that capsized off southern Vietnam last week, killing 15 tourists.
Vietnamese police detained the captain of a speedboat that capsized in water near Phu Quoc Island on Sunday. The 57-year old is under investigation for alleged violations of waterway transport safety regulations.
The speedboat was carrying 32 Indian tourists and 4 Vietnamese crew members when it overturned less than a kilometre from shore Saturday afternoon, killing 15 Indian tourists. 16 survivors have been discharged from the local hospital, with one remaining in critical condition.
The rescue proved difficult, as many were trapped inside the capsized vessel, and sea conditions at the time were very rough.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said victims' bodies were transported to Ho Chi Minh City before being sent to India after official formalities.
