Vehicles washed away amid flash floods in Sichuan's Leshan City

Several vehicles were washed away by flash floods in Sichuan Province's Leshan city as a result of heavy rain in the region.

The torrential currents reached the second floor of a number of residential buildings in Leshan city's Mabian Yi Autonomous County. Besides damaged vehicles, local authorities had to evacuate more than 2,600 residents.

Meteorological authorities of Leshan note the city was hit with severe rain conditions between 8:00am on Friday and 9:00am Saturday, with the heaviest rainfall recorded in the Mabian Yi Autonomous County, which reached 222 millimetres.

Some local shopowners say the floods came out of nowhere, adding that despite their short duration, they suffered losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of yuan.
