Building safety is very much at the forefront of the community's concern following the tragic fire in Wang Fuk Court.
The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors released a review report and recommendations on maintenance works of private buildings in Hong Kong, with suggestions that include the forming of a Building Repairs Bureau to look after the issues as a whole.
The Institute's President Tony Wan explains why on TVB's Straight Talk programme.
TONY WAN, President, Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors: "I would say that is fragmented governance, because of different parties looking after different things and control different things, monitor different things. But there is no consolidated authority to look after the things as a whole. I think certain percentage of the participation of the government or some public authority into the process will make the things much, more open and fair."
