A US-Iran interim peace deal has taken effect after both governments say a memorandum of understanding has been signed. Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirms the document was signed electronically.

US officials have released the 14-point memorandum, outlining the terms of the agreement.

Following the signing of the MOU, both the United States and Iran, along with their respective allies, are to begin an immediate and lasting ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon.

The US will also lift its maritime blockade of Iran with immediate effect.

In return, Iran is required to restore commercial shipping traffic through the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to pre-conflict levels within 30 days.

On the nuclear issue, Tehran reiterates it will never develop nuclear weapons. Both Washington and Tehran say remaining disputes, including issues related to uranium enrichment, will be addressed in negotiations toward a final settlement.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi earlier held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who briefed him on the memorandum of understanding reached.

Wang says China welcomed the agreement, noting that dialogue and negotiation remain the right path forward.
