Beijing's State Council Information Office releases a white paper titled "More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions."
Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscores the importance to defend the authority of the United Nations and refute unilateral moves to bypass the UN Security Council. The document outlines China's participation, actions and results in global governance, and calls on the international community to jointly build a fairer system.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi says global governance concerns the well-being of all humanity and amid increasing global instability and transformation, there's a stronger need than ever to revitalise multilateralism and improve governance effectiveness. He says among the key goals include easing regional tensions through dialogue, promoting lasting peace through shared security, and advancing political solutions to hotspots such as Ukraine and Gaza.
WANG YI, Foreign Minister (Voice of Translator): "The situation of the Middle East continues to be a concern of the whole world. What is needed now is for all parties to work toward the same direction commit firmly to ceasefires in order to lay the foundation for sustainable security architecture."
Wang Yi urges all parties to resist unilateral actions that circumvent the United Nations Security Council. He adds the apparent dysfunction of multilateralism is not because the UN is unimportant, but because its authority have not been fully respected or exercised.
Wang also reveals China is preparing to establish a world AI cooperation organisation with a white paper proposing a global AI governance action plan that aims at ensuring AI benefits all humanity and preventing an AI arms race.
