Over 100 cybersecurity executives and experts are asking the Trump administration to ease restrictions on the use of Anthropic's latest AI models by foreign nationals.
Leaders from companies including Adobe and Nvidia say in a letter that while the Mythos models are quite good at finding flaws in software and weaponising exploits, they are not uniquely good at these tasks.
The letter points out it's dangerous to take away the best cyber defense capabilities without a good reason when America's adversaries, like China, are advancing in the field.
The signatories have asked the US government to commit to "an open, scientific and transparent process of handling AI risk assessments in the future."
A letter from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to Anthropic warned of the risk that its advanced AI models could be diverted to foreign military intelligence users.
The firm announced on Friday that it had taken its latest Fable 5 and Mythos 5 offline to comply with the federal directive.
