US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that a peace deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday and that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen immediately afterward.
However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says any potential memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States will merely serve as a "framework for continuing talks" and should not be considered as "a final agreement",
The Iranian Students' News Agency cited Baghaei as saying that the ongoing negotiations for the proposed MoU focus on securing an immediate end to the war, rather than the nuclear issue.
He also stated the unfreezing and release of Iran's frozen assets is an inseparable condition of any MoU with the United States.
According to Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency, the 14-point MoU includes provisions calling for an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, the complete removal of the US naval blockade, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, among others.
