Former basketball representative on suspicion of common assault

Sources say police arrested a former Hong Kong basketball team's representative on suspicion of common assault on Monday.

Yung Kam-wah was suspected of assaulting a student from Hon Wah College a few years ago. It is understood that Yung has been released on bail.

An online video captures the moment of Yung forcing a student to slap himself at Hon Wah College's basketball court.

Yung later apologises on social media, saying he should not have done that to students regardless of what they might have done.

Hon Wah College says the incident happened in 2023/24 and Yung has been suspended by the school.
