The Police is launching a two-week crackdown on jaywalking and inattentive driving starting today.
In Hip Wo Street, a traffic black spot in Kwun Tong, some pedestrians are still crossing the road illegally.
Police said in the first five months of this year, 51 people died in traffic accidents, a 42% increase year-on-year, half were pedestrians. The main causes are jaywalking and inattentive driving, especially by commercial vehicles.
Starting today, police will enforce the law throughout Hong Kong, with a focus on strengthening patrols using "unmarked vehicles" to combat speeding, disobeying traffic lights, and following too closely.
