A US federal judge temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's administration from proceeding with a 1.8 billion US dollar settlement fund for Republican president's allies, who believe they were victims of a weaponized government.
Judge Leonie Brinkema in Virginia scheduled a hearing on June 12 for arguments on whether to extend her order barring the government from moving forward with its "Anti-Weaponization Fund."
A Justice Department spokesperson said it is "extremely confident" that the fund is legally supported "by ample precedent."
The fund has generated a fierce backlash since it was announced last week, as many are worried that even violent rioters at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 would be allowed to seek compensation.
