Scores of passengers remained stranded at the terminal at 9 p.m. Staff were seen explaining compensation arrangements to the crowds.
Some crew members stayed on board. Passengers say the ship was scheduled to depart this evening for a three-day "cruise to nowhere."
However, citing technical malfunctions, the company initially delayed boarding. After a wait of over two hours, the cruise line announced at 9 p.m. that the vessel will not be able to sail.
Travellers are offered two choices: a full refund or a rescheduled trip to be taken by August 30th.
Additionally, each passenger will receive 200 dollars in compensation, plus 500 dollars per stateroom.
