Japanese authorities are probing possible link between the cash heist in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong and another failed robbery at Haneda Airport.

Kyodo News reports that in the early hours of Friday, a man carrying a large amount of cash was attacked at Haneda Airport.

While he did not suffer any loss in the end, local police are looking into whether he could be linked to the victim of the yen robbery reported earlier in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong.

About two and a half hours before the Haneda Airport incident, five people, including Chinese nationals, were robbed in central Tokyo with more than 400 million yen in cash taken.

NHK cited sources that some suspects admitted to being paid to transport cash belonging to a jewellery dealer, convert it into Hong Kong dollars and move the money.
