Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan said the law mandating seatbelt use on buses were inadequate and failed to reflect the legislative intent.
She said some clauses would be deleted and the law would be revised before further consultation with the Legislative Council.
Chan said: “After consulting the Department of Justice, we believe that the legal provisions requiring passengers to wear seat belts on franchised and non-franchised buses are technically insufficient and do not fully reflect the original legislative intent, which is to extend the statutory requirement for wearing seat belts from private cars, taxis, and public minibuses to all vehicles.”
