Starting today, any Hong Kong driver may not place more than two mobile communication devices in front while driving. Offenders are liable to a fine of $2,000.
Mobile communication devices include mobile phones, tablets, or laptop computers.
Under the new legislation, the screen diagonal of each device must not exceed 19 cm, and the devices must not obstruct the driver’s view of the road and traffic conditions.
As for the currently popular foldable phones, the Department previously reminded that if the screen exceeds 19 cm when unfolded, it is likewise illegal. Drivers must not open them and should use the phone in its smaller (folded) size.
