《唱歌講英文》：Five Hundred Miles

大家好。

Five Hundred Miles是60年代經典民歌，難以追溯誰是作曲人，但有很多歌手曾經翻唱，包括Peter, Paul and Mary及Justin Timberlake等。

歌曲講述遊子離開家鄉的心情，相信不少人都會有共鳴。

如果你錯過了我乘搭的火車，你會知道我已離開，你會聽到響遍百里的哨子聲。(If you miss the train I'm on, you will know that I am gone, you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles.)

當你聽到哨子聲(the whistle blow)，就知道我已經坐火車離開。以前火車開動前，站長會吹起哨子。

球場上若有人犯規，球證亦會吹起哨子。引伸來說，如果見到不公平或不合理的事，要喝止或發聲，令更多人知道就叫whistleblowing(告密/舉報)，而吹哨子的人就是whistleblower(告密者/舉報者)。

很多whistleblower都是小人物，但他們揭發的事卻令政府和大機構很尷尬，經典例子有斯諾登和阿桑奇。

不如再多聽一段。

我衣不蔽體，身無分文，神呀，我不能這樣回家。(Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name. Lord, I can't go home this a-way.)

作詞人表示自己長期流浪，還是窮光蛋一名，沒有面子回家。Not a penny to my name這句和成語不文一名，意思是完全一樣。
