《唱歌講英文》：My Favorite Things

大家好，歌手Ariana Grande在2019年有一首流行歌7 Rings，講述盡情花錢買心頭favorite things。

原來這首歌是改編自60年代音樂劇Sound of Music中的歌曲，My Favorite Things。

玫瑰花上的雨滴，小貓面上的觸鬚，閃亮的銅製水壺，溫暖的羊毛手套，繫上細繩的牛皮紙包裝，這些都是我喜愛的東西 (Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things)。

劇中女主角Maria心情欠佳時，就會想起自己喜歡的東西，例如溫暖的羊毛手套，然後心情就會好一點。

當想起自己喜歡的東西時，心情就會好一點 (I simply remember my favorite things, and then I don't feel so bad)。

相反歌曲7 Rings中的Ariana，她喜歡使用retail therapy，即「購物治療」，相比之下，Maria 純樸得多。

再提一下whiskers這個字，小貓有whiskers觸鬚，其實人類也有，是beard鬍鬚的一部分，生長在面部不同地方，有不同的稱呼。

我知道生長在面兩邊是whiskers，而這兩撇就是mustache對吧？

而生長在下巴這一束就是goatee，俗語叫「羊咩鬚」。英文俗語中to win by a whisker，有贏得驚險的意思。比賽爭持激烈，他贏得驚險 (It was a really close race, and he just won by a whisker)，正如俗語所謂「贏了個馬鼻」。
