Now two years into his return to the White House, US President Donald Trump has suggested that he'll give final pitch of the midterm elections Monday afternoon at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
While the Republican Party is hopeful about flipping an open seat in the state of Michigan, polls show Democratic candidates are leading in Alaska, Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas.
The Michigan Senate race is considered by many analysts to be one of a handful of battleground contests consequential to Tuesday's midterm election.
The state's sitting congresswoman Haley Stevens rocked the Democratic Party as she made a surprise appearance with Republican candidate Mike Rogers and switched her endorsement just two days before the election.
She said in a video posted on X shortly after the event that she doesn't belong in the campaign of Abdul El-Sayed who defeated her on the Democratic Senate nomination.Mike Householder from the Associated Press said: "There was some talk that Stevens would endorse El-Sayed today at a church service in the city. But as it turns out, she appeared with Rogers at a separate church service and offered her endorsement of him."
Rogers said, "It's more a statement about standing together against hate and the future of this state and this country than it is anything else. And I just want you to know, she reminded me at the end of the call. Remember, I'm still a Democrat."
Stevens' move has led to the resignation of her longtime chief of staff and stunned party officials including Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, who denounced it as "despicable betrayal."
In Texas, James Talarico is trying to become the first Democrat to win statewide in decades as recent polls indicate he is narrowly ahead by between 2 and 8 points.
He held a rally in Houston over the weekend in the closing sprint of his campaign and pointed to tech billionaire Elon Musk, who invested over 150 million US dollars to back his Republican opponent Ken Paxton.
Talarico cast his campaign in biblical terms and said "It's David vs. Goliath," telling rallygoers that "The people of Texas are my slingshot."He claimed the election is about "whether you want a senator who puts money in your pocket or who puts money in his own."
