Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik Al Said of Oman arrived in Beijing on Sunday to begin his two-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The two-day trip, running from Sunday to Monday, marks the first visit to China by an Omani head of state since diplomatic ties were established in 1978.

During the visit, President Xi will hold talks with Sultan Haitham to have an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also meet with Sultan Haitham.

Two countries established a strategic partnership and signed a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road cooperation in 2018.

Oman is also one of the founding members of the

World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization established in Shanghai in July.
