203 residents aboard a US residential cruise ship lost their floating homes after surging fuel costs forced the vessel to suspend its voyage after two years of sailing around the world, leaving passengers and crew stranded in Cambodia.

The Florida-based company stated that monthly fuel expenses skyrocketed from an average of 1800 US dollars per cabin to as much as 8000 US dollars per cabin during the war in Iran.

Despite attempts to slow the itinerary, the operators were unable to cover the mounting operating costs.

The Odyssey docked in Sihanoukville for a five-day visit before halting operations, leaving 203 passengers and 156 crew members stranded in Cambodia.

Passengers were told to leave the ship, but the crew faced an uncertain future.
