The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) received notification of data breach incidents this month from Hong Kong Airlines, Yoho Hong Kong and Broadway Photo Supply.

Preliminary investigations indicate that over 1,600 affected customers received suspicious scam calls between last month and this month.

The callers falsely claimed to offer compensation for cancelled flights or refunds for damaged packages.

The personal data involved includes names, phone numbers, delivery addresses and flight numbers.

A total of 43 complaints and inquiries have been received so far.

The PCPD reminds the public to verify the caller's identity upon receiving calls claiming to be from businesses, refuse any suspicious money transfer requests and watch for scam alerts issues by the relevant companies.
