The International Criminal Court and its officials have won the European
Union's top human rights honour.
The Sakharov Prize came just days after the US Trump administration
announced sweeping new sanctions on the ICC.
The European Parliament President Roberta Metsola stands defiant
against Washington's attempt to dismantle the tribunal.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said, "the European Union is built on respects for multilateralism and
international institutions and this prize recognizes the important
work of the court in upholding international law and justice."
The award is named after Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov,
and was created to honour those who defend human rights
