At least two children have died since the city entered into the influenza season.

This as the Centre for Health Protection urged the community to promptly get vaccinated owing to expectations of a longer duration of the summer flu season.

This after a 12-year-old girl who was initially in healthy condition died after contracting influenza A complicated by septic shock.

Hong Kong recorded 25 paediatric influenza cases since late June.

The CHP noted the proportion of respiratory samples testing positive for flu over the past month remained between 10 and 12%, which is nearly double the baseline.

Health authorities expect the peak of the flu season will persist for five months or even longer.
