Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with representatives of the advisory board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) in Beijing on Tuesday.
Ding exchanged views with the representatives, including Apple's Tim Cook, focusing on the development and governance of artificial intelligence (AI).
AI is a key force driving a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, Ding said, stressing the need to develop, apply and govern this future-shaping technology to better benefit all humanity.
Noting that the advisory board has served as an important platform for dialogue, exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries over the past 26 years, Ding expressed the hope that its members will make further contributions to China's education sector and economic development.
The representatives, including Tim Cook, chairman of the advisory board, spoke highly of China's achievements in AI and other fields. They expressed their willingness to remain committed to the Chinese market, expand cooperation and better fulfill the board's role as a bridge between China and the international community.
In September, Tim Cook became executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors, stepping down from his role as Apple's CEO. John Ternus, senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, succeeded him as Apple’s chief executive officer.
